Mike Wallace has died at the age of 93. This was the man who conducted some of the most-watchable interviews with the great and good for more than 40 years on 60 Minutes.
Wallace had quite the career. In the 1940s and 1950s he appeared on TV and radio doing all manner of things, culminating in The Mike Wallace Interview on ABC. He was a natural fit for 60 Minutes when it debuted in the 1960s.
He stayed on CBS and on 60 Minutes until 2008, interviewing famous people for 40-plus years. He was known for not holding back from asking the hard questions, conducting what some called interrogations rather than interviews.
Wallace is survived by his wife, a son, and two stepchildren. He will be sorely missed by anyone who liked to see powerful people getting cross-examined without mercy.
