Mikey Welsh, one-time bassist with Weezer and renowned artist, has passed away at the tender age of just 40. The cause of death hasn’t yet been confirmed but a drugs overdose is suspected.
Welsh played bass for Weezer between 1998 and 2001, replacing Matt Sharp before being replaced by Scott Shriner. He cites a mental breakdown as the reason he left the band.
During his tenure with the band Weezer released The Green Album, and Welsh played on Hash Pipe and Island In The Sun, two of Weezer’s biggest hits to date.
After he left Weezer Welsh became an artist. He was found dead in a Chicago hotel room after failing to check out on time.
