On Sunday night, Miley Cyrus performed new song Party in the USA at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles. The show was aired last night on Fox and promptly raised controversy because of Cyrus’s act.
Uptight parents are complaining that Cyrus, who plays Hannah Montana on TV and in movies, was dressed provocatively and pole danced in the middle of her performance. Which may not be suitable for a 16-year-old teen idol.
But hang on a minute. Yes, she is dressed quite tartily but I’ve seen much younger girls than her wearing more provocative clothing. As for the pole dancing – she doesn’t pole dance! Unless standing next to a pole now passes for pole dancing.
Sure, parents have a right to be concerned about what their kids see on TV, but I really don’t think Cyrus has done anything wrong here. She’s not parading round naked or simulating sex on stage, so maybe everyone should calm down a little.
