YellowBird is a company that uses 5 cameras to film events at the same time so that they can be put together for a 3D-effect. Take this demo reel, for example, which completely blew my mind the first time I pressed play.
…and the second, and the third. Make sure to watch it in fullscreen!
While more cameras could be used for better quality, I’m pretty impressed with the product as it is. Finally, this experience is something that blows traditional TV out of the water- unless big networks like ABC and FOX decide to film shows in 3D of course.
The potential for this type of technology is tremendous, I could certainly see this working for National Geographic and similar documentary series. To visit the actual site of the company click here, it’s pretty a damn long name to remember.
