This video shows Missy ‘Missile’ Franklin winning the gold medal in the 100-meters backstroke at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Well, kinda.
Unfortunately all the footage of the Olympics is owned by the IOC and is being taken off YouTube at a rate of knots. Meaning it’s far better to embed a mock-up created by The Wall Street Journal.
I’m not saying anything bad about Franklin or her stunning victory, but I do find it galling that a U.S. swimming coach called into question the performance of Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen when American swimmers are also breaking records.
The fact is they’re all being tested for drugs, so there is no need to single one person out. When a U.S. coach singles out a Chinese athlete it just comes across as xenophobic jealousy.
