My Dog Skip is a movie first released in 2000 and based on the autobiographical book of the same name by author Willie Morris. It stars Frankie Muniz, Kevin Bacon, and Diane Lane, who all give great performances. Oh, and several dogs playing the part of Skip at various ages.
Muniz plays a 9-year-old boy who has no friends and is consistently bullied. That is until Skip enters his life, and as well as having a best friend in the dog, the pair also go on adventures and make new friends.
The film is set in the 1940s with Bacon and Lane playing Willie’s parents.
My Dog Skip is one of those movies that tugs at the heart strings and fails to let go for anything. It’s sweet, heartfelt, and very well made. Anyone who enjoyed Marley and Me will probably enjoy seeking out and watching My Dog Skip.
