As a college student, I constantly find myself on an uphill battle with my body to keep awake. All last year, it seemed like my source of energy to maintain both my grades and a good work ethic came only in the form of caffeine (tea, coffee, energy drinks, and Coke).
As my body gets more tolerant, it seems like each day I have to keep consuming more and more caffeine. I swear I’m nearly a caffeine junkie! But that’s all over now that I’ve got myself some Yerba Mate.
Ok, I admit I haven’t even touched the stuff yet (I’m making some Yerba Mate tea for the first time as I’m typing this), but all the good qualities mentioned in the above video had me sold. Yerba Mate, which originates from Argentina, contains less caffeine than coffee but is said to keep the user more alert…even “lucid.”
After I found out that Yerba Mate was also the most popular drink to consume after a night of partying and for studying I just had to get some for myself at my nearest health food store. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep awake now without the use of loads of caffeine.
