This incident happened over six months ago but I somehow seem to have missed it at the time. It’s not every day you get a wish come true but this day back in August, 2008 saw one of mine fulfilled. Nickelback got stoned… unfortunately not to death.
OK, so that’s a tad harsh. I wouldn’t want to see them killed, just mildly injured. Maybe if Chad Kroeger had something happen to his voice box then the rest of us could turn on our radios again without having to hear yet another insipid soft rock tune from the Canadian band.
Really, this incident was Nickelback’s own fault. They agreed to play a death metal festival in support of headliners Slipknot – the scary dudes who wear masks. And they expected the crowd to be fans and sit through How You Remind Me and Rockstar Idiots.
Instead, the Portuguese crowd showed what they thought of Nickelback and threw rocks and bottles at them. Not big, not clever, but at least showing they understand democracy. The crowd voted for them to get off the stage and Nickelback thankfully took the rather big hint.
