We see it all to often on bumper stickers these days but what does the slogan “Support our Troops” really stand for?
Back in 1998 philosopher Noam Chomsky called it “an empty slogan” stating, “It really doesn’t mean anything…it diverts your attention.”
As a fan of Noam Chomsky’s outlook on politics, I was amazed when I heard this excerpt from a 1998 lecture he had released on his spoken-word album titled “Class War: The Attack On Working People.” Even though this was years before Iraq and Obama, the topics covered are just as relevant as they are today.
Perhaps the most shocking line to me was the one at the 3:49 mark about health care. It’s saddens me that this audio clip is over 10 years old yet virtually everything stated remains the same in 2009.
