This is the official trailer for Moonrise Kingdom, a new movie by Wes Anderson. The film tells the tale of a pair of young lovers who go AWOL and get tracked down by a search party. OK, so it looks better than I’m describing it.
As with all Anderson’s films the cinematography looks stunning, with an amazing color palette and some ingenious camera-work. But a film cannot rely on visuals alone.
I actually hated The Royal Tenenbaums when it was released, but I think my appreciation for good cinema has improved since then. I loved The Darjeeling Limited, and suspect I’ll love Moonrise Kingdom as well.
It marries an amazing cast to an offbeat storyline, great visuals to quirky humor. And that’s just the trailer. Moonrise Kingdom is due for a limited release in the U.S. and beyond in May 2012.
