American Idol is very similar to all those other reality shows, particularly those in the Simon Cowell stable. They throw up a seemingly equal number of talented singers, dreadful singers, and freaks. Although most auditionees are distinctly average.
I’m having trouble pigeonholing General Larry Platt into any of these categories after his performance of Pants On The Ground during season 9 of the show. Is it so bad it’s good? Or is it just a pile of old nonsense?
Pants On The Ground is a genius song, and an accurate lyrical description of the youngsters who insist on walking around with their, well, pants on the ground. It may well be fashionable but it’s also retarded.
Simon Cowell’s comment that Larry was too old for American Idol but that this won’t be the last we’ll see of him implies the general will be back for the newly-announced American X Factor. I reckon he’d be a great fit.
