Playstation Home is the new innovation Sony hopes will be another reason for consumers to buy a PS3 this holiday season, on top of the exclusive games and Blu-ray player capabilities.
PS3 Home has been described as Second Life for hardcore gamers, and while Microsoft meant that as a negative comment, as a hardcore gamer who has always wanted to try Second Life, it sounds positively brilliant.
This video shows footage from the closed beta that has been running for the past few months. The uploader takes us around the virtual world, and helpfully speeds up the boring parts of the experience.
Today, December 11, 2008, is the day when Playstation Home enters open beta, meaning any PS3 owner signed up to the Playstation Network can download it and sample the delights on offer.
Playstation Home is free to use, although there are things to buy if you have more money than sense. The video has me intrigued and I can’t wait to give the long-awaited service a go.
