Primer is an independent film made on a very tight budget of just $7,000 back in 2004. It’s on TV today after a limited release in theaters a few years ago. It’s become a cult classic is definitely worth checking out.
Primer was made almost entirely by Shane Carruth, a former mathematician and engineer who used his technical know-how to write, direct, produce, and edit a movie which refuses to dumb down and treat the audience like idiots.
This was maybe a little successfully carried out as the dialog is so complicated that one reviewer suggested, “anybody who claims [to] fully understand what’s going on in Primer after seeing it just once is either a savant or a liar.”
Primer is highly recommended. The plot is intelligent and story tight. It is a hell of a confusing film but that makes you want to watch it a second or third time until you understand it better.
