The Princess Diana Inquest began earlier this week, so it’s made me look back on the days after she died, and the way it brought together not only a nation but the whole world.
Princess Diana obviously died in a Paris road tunnel after head of hotel security and temporary driver Henri Paul crashed while driving too fast and possibly under the influence of drink.
Not only did Princess Diana (Charles estranged wife and mother to the heir to the British throne) die, but so also did her boyfriend Dodi Fayed. Henri Paul also lost his life and bodyguard Trevor Rees Jones was lucky to escape with his.
This video shows Elton John singing Candle In The Wind at Diana’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey in London. It is one of the most poignant moments of the whole thing, and a very heartfelt performance from Sir Elton.
Whatever the outcome of the inquest, it’s not going to bring back Princess Diana so I wish they’d leave it be. It’s been over 10 years now and I think it’s time to let her rest in peace.
