Priyanka Chopra’s debut in Baywatch has the actress’ career flourishing in Hollywood despite her role being seen as a negative one. The actress’ Indian fans are eagerly awaiting the film which is slated for a June 2 release.
The film received mostly poor reviews from foreign media and debuted in the US on May 26.
Chopra’s first Hollywood debut may be overlooked by critics that view the role as menial, but the actress will have a lot to celebrate as news of her being honored with a Dadasaheb Phalke Award has been released. She will be awarded in the new category of Internationally Acclaimed Actress.
“Priyanka has made the country product and hence, is the right choice for the award” states General Secretary of the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards.
The actress might not be present at the award show which will take place on June 1. The actress has yet to arrive back in India. She is in New York promoting Baywatch and has not confirmed her presence at the awards show. Her mother, Madhu Chopra will receive the award on her daughter’s behalf if she cannot attend the awards.
Madhu will also be honored at the show for her Marathi film which won several awards.
Priyanka has rose to stardom following her role in Quantico, an American television series. She has won two awards for her portrayal of the show’s Alex Parrish, an FBI recruit. The actress was most recently spotted on a plane bound for Berlin to continue Baywatch’s promotion.
The actress made her first appearance on the red carpet in May with an appearance at the Met Gala 2017. She has made appearances at other award shows on the international stage, including the Oscars, Emmys and Golden Globe awards.
Reports suggest that the actress’ next Bollywood film will be about astronaut Kalpana Chawla which she will portray.
