The recent U.S. election wasn’t just about putting Barack Obama in the White House. There were also other elections taking place as well as the California State Ballot Propositions.
The most notable and controversial of these propositions is Prop 8, which seeks to overturn a California Supreme Court decision recognizing same-sex marriage as a fundamental right.
The two sides are completely and bitterly opposed, with those voting no equating gay rights to the civil rights movement of the 1960s while those voting yes stating that gay marriage would devalue the institution.
The proposition passed but that’s not the end of the story, with gay rights protesters continuing their fight, and even taking it to the churches and organizations they blame for the law being passed.
This news video shows such a protest, outside a California Mormon church, which unfortunately turned violent. The attack on the protester is being treated as a hate crime.
