For months there have been rumors surrounding both a PS3 Slim and a PS3 price cut. But until now, Sony had confirmed nothing. However, that’s all changed with a huge announcement at Gamescom in Germany.
This video shows that unveiling of the PS3 Slim, which as the name suggests is a slimmer, lighter, and less power-hungry version of the Playstation 3 than the current full-fat version on sale.
The PS3 Slim comes with a 120GB hard drive as standard and backwards compatibility with some PS2 games has made a return after being removed from most versions of the PS3.
The PS3 Slim is going to be on sale from September 1 in stores around the world for $299/299 Euros, and probably £299 as well. But that price cut is immediate so you can pick one of the older models up for that price straight away.
There’s just two problems with the PS3 Slim as far as I can see: it’s ugly to look at and it’s probably more likely to overheat. Could we be about to see an Xbox 360 Red Ring Of Death style hardware failure trend on the PS3?
