Millions of fish have turned up dead in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles. The cause of death was initially a mystery, but after an investigation it appears the fish died due to depleted oxygen levels.
It’s believed that high winds caused the fish to head inland. Many headed into the harbor, got disoriented, and stuck. That many fish in one place means the oxygen levels were depleted quickly, and the result is millions of dead fish.
The fish are sardines, and the amount that died from natural causes in the harbor in just one night would have made for a super-impressive haul for a fleet of fishing boats.
Instead, these fish ended up dead for absolutely no reason. Then again, I guess nature is ultimately to blame, and who can argue with nature?
