Richard III, who has been dead for more than 500 years, has been found in a car park in Leicester, England. Or at least his remains have. Anything else would have been an absolute miracle.
Even as it is this is a fascinating story, with the positive identification of a person who was alive in the 15th century. Who said science wasn’t cool?!
Richard III died in 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth Field, bringing to an end his two years as king. Legend tells of Richard III being a murderous scoundrel, but most of what is said is based on less than solid evidence.
Thanks to DNA testing and comparisons with living ancestors it’s been confirmed that the skeleton recently found is that of Richard III. The body is due to be re-interred at the beginning of 2014.
