Ronnie O’Sullivan once again cleared the table with a 147 break recently, something he’s already done nine times in competitive matches before this.
The difference with this one, which occurred during the third round of the World Open in Glasgow against Mark King, is that O’Sullivan almost didn’t pot the black, having to be persuaded to do so by King and referee Jan Verhaas.
After O’Sullivan had potted the first red and black combination, he asked Verhaas what the prize was for hitting a 147 break. When told there wasn’t one, O’Sullivan continued but decided not to pot the final black until urged to for the benefit of the fans.
O’Sullivan basically comes across as smug and greedy with this display. Smug because he was so confident he’d make the 147, and greedy because he felt it wasn’t worth his while finishing it off because there was no extra money on offer.
