Brand and Perry had a whirlwind romance, claiming to have fallen in love instantly. They married in 2010 but didn’t see much of each other thanks to their busy careers.
In the divorce petition Brand cited “irreconcilable differences.” This is the standard excuse for celebrities when they realize hastily-arranged marriages they rushed into were never going to last.
There is speculation that Brand wanted to settle down and start a family, while Perry still wanted to party. Perry asked Brand to start divorce proceedings so she wouldn’t upset her ultra-religious parents.
