This video features the audio of a hoax call made to the British emergency services using 999. Made on Boxing Day (Dec. 26), the woman doesn’t have an emergency, but is keen to wish the operator a Merry Christmas.
I actually feel a little sorry for the woman on the end of the phone, because I don’t think she’s doing this to be horrible or cause trouble. Instead, I think she’s genuine in her wishing of a Merry Christmas, and is probably lonely herself.
Still, there are people other than the emergency services you can call when you’re lonely. And this could have caused trouble for someone with a real emergency.
I just hope she sees this video and realized how stupid she was, and next time rings The Samaritans or one of those other organizations who exist solely to listen to people who need to be listened to.
