Salvia divinorum has officially become illegal in 11 states (as of yesterday). While no federal laws to ban the sale of it exist (it is not on the Controlled Substances Act) states have been taking it upon themselves to pass their own laws.
Scary news videos like the one above demonize Salvia divinorum. Though, did you know a variation of the plant may exist in your back yard?
As it turns out Salvia divinorium is just a psychoactive version of Salvia pratensis (aka Meadow Sage) which is commonly sold at Home Depots and Lowes around the country. After finding this out, I figured I should do a little more research on the herb before dismissing it as harmful.
Salvia Divinorum Basics
Here we have a hippie-looking-girl (try not to be too judgmental) explaining basics of the drug. As it turns out, the plant can also be chewed to last up to an hour, contains a compound stronger than LSD, and bad trips are a rare occurrence.
The way it’s looking, it’s easy to predict that Salvia divinorum could become federally controlled in less than a decade’s time; much like marijuana prohibition in the 1930’s. Which is a shame due to the fact that there is obviously a lot of research that needs to be done on the herb.
Until then, it’s a race against the clock for kid’s like Alex to post their crazy trips on Salvia online.
