Footage of any raging, out-of-control wildfire is scary, but this one in Waldo Canyon, Colorado is particularly disheartening to watch.
This fire has taken hold in the foothills overlooking Colorado Springs. the prolonged drought in the whole of the interior west is to blame, with other states at real risk of seeing similar incidents.
In all 32,000 people were given evacuation orders, including the 2,000 resident in the local Air Force Academy. The fire now covers an area of 9-square-miles.
The Waldo Canyon fire has eaten up over 6,000 acres of dry timber in the four days since it broke out. The scariest thing is that even those whose job it is to contain the blaze are in the dark over how big it will get and how long it will last.
