The results of the referendum on Scottish independence are in, and Scotland has voted to remain part of the United Kingdom. As an Englishman, I’m glad the Scots decided to remain part of the UK, but with almost half of the country voted to leave, opinions are split down the middle.
This video shows fellow Englishman (now decamped to the United States) John Oliver talking about the Scottish independence debate and how both sides pleaded their cases.
Both sides are guilty of scaremongering and playing hard and fast with the truth, but in the end the unionists won the vote by the merest of majorities.
Despite the No vote there will still be consequences to the attempt at secession. Not least of which is the prospect of England, Welsh, and Northern Irish voters asking for more powers along with the Scots.
