Shane Lowry has won the 2019 Open Championship, holding off a challenge from England’s Tommy Fleetwood to claim his first major win.
Lowry finished 15 under par, mainly thanks to his record-breaking third round of 63. The second-placed Fleetwood finished second on nine under par.
Lowry is a professional Irish golfer who has had mixed results up to now. But this win will push him up the world rankings and hopefully spur him onto greater things.
The 2019 Open Championship was held at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, which meant Lowry enjoyed masses of local support. And that must have helped him win.
