At first, it’s easy to question the validity of this story. After all, aren’t sodas made with tons of sugar that would attract bugs?
But after a bit of digging, I found sources like The Guardian to agree, Indian farmers are actually using sodas such as Coke and Pepsi as pesticides.
According to Indian scientists, Coke contains pesticide chemicals 24 times higher than the legal limit. As a result, a number of Indian states have banned the product. Others are using the soda on their crops since it’s cheaper than buying actual pesticides.
As a resident of Atlanta (where the Coke headquarters are), I am completely shocked by this discovery. I remember taking field trips to “The World Of Coke” as a kid. Coke made a public statement saying that the scientific evidence was “inconclusive” but I just don’t know who to believe anymore.
After all, didn’t Coke once contain cocaine?
