We may now live in a fully-integrated, multi-cultural society but things weren’t quite so free and easy in the 1970s. In fact, racism was still rife everywhere you looked. Including this suburb of Adelaide where one guy seems very particular about who he sells his house to.
The advert in the local newspaper specifically mentions “No Asians thankyou,” an obviously xenophobic and closed-minded view from the crotchety old vendor. The local news reporter quickly goes over to the man’s house to see why he feels the way he does.
The guy is cornered and undergoes a kind-of interrogation at the hands of the eager news hound. The man is adamant he’s done no wrong, even when he’s told it’s illegal to insist upon “No Asians thankyou.”
Finally, after the guy tries to explain himself, it becomes clear he meant “No Agents thankyou,” and someone clearly misheard him when he transcribed the advert over the phone. So, not a racist at all, just a sensible guy trying to sell his house buy struggling to do so because of his Australian accent.
