Venice has suffered its worst flooding for 50 years. And it’s looking increasingly unlikely Venice will remain habitable when climate change kicks into gear.
Venice has suffered from flooding throughout its history. And there are regular high tides which see sea levels rise by several feet.
However, this “acqua alta” was unusually high, leading water levels to rise by six feet. Flooding the city and its famous buildings.
There are plans in place for a barrier system to prevent the city from being flooded, but Venice is battling against nature, and there’s only ever going to be one winner.
My advice is to visit Venice while you still can.
