Slumdog Millionaire is the new movie from Danny Boyle, the astounding director behind films such as Trainspotting and 28 Days Later. It’s a film with British, Bollywood, and Hollywood connections, and it makes for an interesting and brilliant mix.
The movie has only had a limited release in the States so far, but came out in the UK a few days ago. I went to see it last night and found it to be every bit as intriguing and intoxicating as I’d been lead to believe.
Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of a slumdog (naturally) in India who finds himself as a contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. We then see how he got there, and how his life provided all the answers he needed to become a millionaire.
At its heart, Slumdog Millionaire is a love story, but it’s so much more than that. It tells of friendship, family, love, and betrayal, and the story is told against a backdrop of Indian culture and scenery.
Slumdog Millionaire won three Golden Globe Awards, including ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Film’. The Golden Globes are a good indicator of who will win at the Oscars, so this movie could be about to win big. If it does, expect a wider release in America.
