Snapchat is insanely popular right now, and growing at a rate of knots. It’s so successful that its founders felt confident enough to reject a $3 billion acquisition offer from Facebook.
However, the start of 2014 has brought some unwanted attention Snapchat’s way, with a security breach that led to data belonging to millions of people being leaked online.
This is embarrassing for Snapchat for a couple of reasons. Not only is Snapchat presented as being a secure means of sharing photos, an Australian company has been warning of vulnerabilities for many months.
Whether this security breach and exposure of phone numbers lessens the appeal of Snapchat remains to be seen, but it certainly isn’t a good thing for the service.
