There is a myth bandied around by all the media companies as to how much damage piracy or file-sharing causes. And they’re using this to promote SOPA and PIPA.
I’m not advocating piracy here. As a writer who has had his content copied and pasted elsewhere without attribution, I can see how the Internet has created a big problem.
However, not only is there an argument as to whether file-sharing is theft or not, there is also the underhanded way the media companies are overstating the issues involved. They claim jobs and revenue are lost each and every time a file is shared. Which is nonsense.
As for SOPA and PIPA, these two bills have been badly written and use language so vague that they will affect more than just those sites originally targeted. Believe the hype and help fight SOPA and PIPA.
