Jake Gyllenhaal stars in new sci-fi thriller Source Code, which explores our relationship with time. But at its heart it’s a love story, with Michelle Monaghan playing the other half of the potential couple.
Gyllenhaal wakes up from a nap to find himself on a train. He doesn’t know who he is, where he is, and what he’s supposed to be doing there. But all the mysteries are gradually revealed as the movie trudges on to its final conclusion.
As some people have already noted there are some similarities between Source Code and both Groundhog Day and Deja Vu, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Groundhog Day is a magnificent film, and Deja Vu isn’t at all bad, either.
The connection I made was with Quantum Leap, again, another brilliant thing to draw inspiration from. Source Code is released in theaters today (April 1, 2011).
