Star Wars is arriving on Blu-ray this week, with The Complete Saga featuring all six movies in the series available to watch in high-definition for the first time from Sept. 16.
But I for one will not be purchasing the Blu-ray collection, and not just because George Lucas has made several unnecessary changes to these classic movies.
As has already been well-documented, Lucas has added to, taken away from, and manipulated scenes from the films just because he can. The most pathetic has to be Darth Vader screaming “Nooooo” when the Emperor attacks Luke Skywalker.
More than that, though, is the pointlessness of this release. Blu-ray isn’t that much better than DVD, especially if then latter is upscaled. So Star Wars: The Complete Saga will just add a few zeros to Lucas’ burgeoning bank balance. I’ll pass.
