Apple has unveiled the iPad 3, although it isn’t actually called the iPad 3. Instead it’s ‘the new iPad’, iPad (third-generation), or simply iPad. Still, the name isn’t everything.
This video shows the first commercial for the new iPad, and the Retina Display has been placed front and center. This new screen has so many pixels that your eye will not be able to pick out individual ones, hence Retina Display.
The reason the iPad 3 Retina Display is the main focus of the commercial is that it’s by far the biggest selling point. There are a few other improvements, and bells and whistles, but this is the big one.
Unfortunately the iPad 3 is still too expensive for most people. $499 can get you a decent laptop these days, and you can do more on a laptop than you can on a tablet. Until that changes then we won’t have entered the post-PC era.
