Superman: Man Of Steel is out now in movie theaters around the world. Have Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan managed to bring the ultimate A-list superhero back to the fore in the right way?
The problem is Kermode, as with all reviewers, has biases and preferences and individual tastes just like the rest of us. What he likes, most other people may not like.
He loves the first half of Superman: Man Of Steel because it shows the main character at his weakest and struggling with inner turmoil. But he hates the second half because it’s all about the action.
Other people will have the completely opposite view to that, hating the boring bits and loving the fast and furious ending. To me this suggests Superman: Man Of Steel has something for everyone, which is surely a good thing.
