Renowned British actress Susannah York has died at the age of 72 after suffering from bone marrow cancer. She was a star of films, television, and stage productions.
York was best known, and will be best remembered, for her roles in They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? and Battle of Britain. But for me she’ll always be Superman’s mother.
York racked up Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her portrayal of Alice in the aforementioned Sydney Pollack film. She also gained many plaudits for her work on TV, appearing in dramas towards the end of her career.
York is survived by her son Orlando, daughter Sasha, and two grandchildren.
