You’re too late to celebrate International ‘Talk Like A Pirate Day’, as it took place yesterday (Sept. 19). However, there’s always next year, and in the meantime this video should warm yer cockles.

‘Talk Like A Pirate Day’ takes place on September 19 every year, and has done since it was inaugurated in 1995. Two guys from Oregon in the U.S. created this parodic holiday, and it seems to have stuck.

The holiday didn’t really make it into the public consciousness until 2002, and since then the Internet has helped make it a truly global affair.

This video shows a class of first-graders singing Call Me Matey, a mash-up of Call Me Maybe and pirate-inspired lyrics, all while dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow and his ship-bound mates.
