Jack Black and Kyle Gass are back together again as Tenacious D. Not that they ever split, you understand, they were just on an extended hiatus.
There isn’t just a hint of self-deprecation here, it’s almost all self-deprecation. I love the reference to the movie, The Pick Of Destiny, having bombed. It did OK but wasn’t a big enough hit to warrant a sequel. More’s the pity.
There is also an underlying truth – Gass probably does ask Black to record a new album and have to work around Black’s movie career. Though I’m sure no begging, or weeks-long hugging sessions are needed.
This promo has worked though. I will be buying a copy of Rize Of The Fenix when it’s released. After all, it’s “the greatest album ever recorded, by anyone, ever.” And that’s a fact.
