I’m a huge fan of the new way in which Tesla coils are being used – as musical instruments capable of recreating instrumentals. This video shows a group called ArcAttack who use Tesla coils, along with other cool instruments, to play music and put on shows.
Here on WebTVHub, we’ve already featured the Super Mario Bros. theme being played on Tesla coils, as well as a particularly ingenious soul using one as a guitar amp.
Both of those examples of using Tesla coils pale into insignificance by this group though. We get to see them perform two songs – Popcorn and the Doctor Who theme, as well as an interview delving into the technology and the thinking behind it all.
For those viewers not interested in the talking, Popcorn starts at 3:50 and Doctor Who starts at 6:45.
These videos make me want my own pair of Tesla coils and a computer program allowing me to play music using them. However, I think my girlfriend and landlord would both have a problem with me if I did it, not to mention my long-suffering neighbors. If they thought Guitar Hero at 3am was bad, how would they react to this?
