‘Great American Detour’ Documentary (Vid) | More In-Depth Than Obama’s Infomercial?

33 sec read

While Obama’s 30 minute infomercial only provided an insight into the lives of four struggling American families, “The Great American Detour” attempts to be even more in depth and non-partisan. Instead of focusing on polls, rallies, and speeches, this documentary aims to find out what’s really on the minds of Americans.

You can watch the trailer above and the entire documentary (commercial-free) below.

From the first few minutes into the video, you can already tell that this is independent journalism at it’s finest. Filmmakers Lauren and Tyler aren’t in this for any money or fame; they sacrifice 20 days of traveling because they really do care.

If you don’t have time to experience the whole film, make sure to at least check out these checkpoints: 5:20 – Houston, Texas; 9:30 – Port Arthur, Texas; 29:40 – Detroit, Michigan; 36:30 – Brea, Kentucky. The fact that no political sides are taken is reminiscent of PBS Frontline specials.
