Today is Memorial Day in the United States, when the whole country remembers the people who have died fighting for the armed forces.
Memorial Day actually started life as Decoration Day in 1868. So-called because people used to decorate the graves of soldiers who had died fighting for the Union.
Decoration Day eventually became Memorial Day, which is a national federal holiday observed on the last Monday of every May. People visit cemeteries, placing flags on the graves of fallen soldiers.
The U.S. also has a Veterans Day to remember everyone who served in the armed forces, and Armed Forces Day, which celebrates those currently serving.
