There’s always a fine line with horror movies; a fine line between being really damn scary and being cheesy and unbelievable.
Has The Last Exorcism, a new horror movie from producer Eli Roth (Hostel) and director Daniel Stamm, stayed the right side of the line?
The Last Exorcism follows the same style as employed by The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. So the whole thing is shot by handheld camera in a documentary style as if it’s all real.
This sometimes works, upping the scare levels, and sometimes doesn’t. On this occasion it looks to have been a good idea as The Last Exorcism is gaining good reviews for being very scary.
The Last Exorcism is one to avoid if you’re not a fan of being scared out of your wits. I like the odd scare but I definitely draw the line at the point that the film starts replaying itself in my head when I’m asleep.
