As the creator of Glee, Nip/Tuck, and American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy’s brought us some of the most influential television programs in recent years. He’s hoping to continue his winning run with The New Normal, which hits NBC this fall.
In it we see Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha playing a gay couple desperate for a child. Enter Georgia King’s Goldie, a prospective surrogate desperate to change her life for her daughter. Ellen Barkin rounds out the cast as Goldie’s conservative grandmother.
The writing looks sharp, and it seems balanced well with just the right note of sentimentality. Is The New Normal the new Modern Family?
