Francis Ford Coppola is no doubt best known and best remembered for the Godfather movies and Apocalypse Now, but he’s made many other movies, most of which are well worth a watch.
Take for instance The Outsiders, which was released in 1983. Based on the novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton, the film stars a host of young actors who went on to do great things in Hollywood.
The basic plot follows the exploits of a gang of greasers who regularly fight with a rival gang of socs. The movie and the book it’s based on explore the themes of family, loyalty, class, and brotherly love.
The Outsiders is worth watching for the cast alone. There are appearances from Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, and Tom Cruise to name just a selection.
