The Perks Of Being A Wallflower struggles for the same reason all coming-of-age dramas do: it really only appeals to those who are the right age to understand the feelings and thoughts thrown up by the plot.
As a 35-year-old I came of age a long time ago. Do I want to see youngsters struggling to cope with turning from children into adults? Not really, no. Only other youngsters will.
The Perks Of Being A Wallflower looks pretty good and fans of the book appear to have taken to the movie adaptation well. Those of us who aren’t 18 and who haven’t read the book may struggle to get excited by it though.
