This is the trailer for The Rum Diary, a movie based on the Hunter S. Thompson novel of the same name. It stars Johnny Depp as an American journalist who heads to Puerto Rico.
And I have to say this movie doesn’t look very appealing. In fact, I’m going to be giving it a wide berth.
No disrespect to Thompson, especially as a lot of people love him and his writing style, but I just don’t feel his books are suitable to be adapted into movies. They’re too random and rambling, which gives the stories a distinct lack of cohesive narrative.
Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas is a terrible film, and having seen that and the trailer for this, I won’t be bothering with The Rum Diary. Sorry Johnny, as much as I love you, this is clearly not your finest hour.
