First of all, I should say I’m a massive fan of both The Simpsons and Family Guy. But, I do see the similarities from time to time, and this video is a great omnibus of those copycat moments.
The Simpsons has obviously been around a lot longer than Family Guy, and so a certain amount of repeat jokes is to be expected, but this video shows more than I expected.
My argument would be that there are only so many jokes around, especially ones suitable for a family audience on a risqué animated show.
Family Guy have in my opinion done the jokes better in the main, improving or adding to the originals from The Simpsons.
It’s not just jokes which are repeated thought either, with whole plotlines being used in both shows. The child welfare one being a classic case in point.
The thing is, The Simpsons doesn’t have Quagmire, and that puts Family Guy head and shoulders above it in my opinion. Although The Simpsons movie is very very funny.
I love the way this video ends with a fitting song and Family Guy being called “Plagiarismo“. Harsh, but on the evidence of this video, maybe not wholly unfair!
