The Story Of Guy Fawkes Day Video | Remember, Remember The Fifth Of November

26 sec read

Remember, remember the fifth of November. Gunpowder, treason and plot. In other words it’s Guy Fawkes Day today. Are you celebrating?

This nice little animation tells the story of The Gunpowder Plot, in which 13 Catholics tried to blow up the British House of Lords in 1605. They failed, which is why the day is still venerated.

It’s a little strange that we still celebrate, or at least commemorate something that happened 400 years ago. But to be honest I think it’s now more about having fun than any kind of nod to the past.

Which is why instead of a Guy being placed on top of the fires it’s often the most-hated celebrity of the day. I wonder who it’ll be this year? Kim Kardashian, perhaps?
