There is currently a debate raging in the United States over the Confederate flag. Is it to be revered as a symbol of heroism or is it nothing but a symbol of racism, and a history that we should be looking to move on from?
This video explores the history of the Confederate flag, revealing the truth that it wasn’t really displayed until the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s when Southern states were opposed to anti-discrimination laws.
Furthermore, the Confederate flag that is still flying above some state capitals was never the actual flag, but just part of the three adopted by the Confederate States Army.
It’s surely time to let this flag die. It won’t suddenly make racism go away, but it at least signifies a country ready to move on from the bad old days when slavery was seen as perfectly acceptable.
